Cafe Pushkin

More than 50 years ago in Moscow toured the famous French chansonnier Gilbert Beko. Upon his return to France, he wrote the song «Natalie», which he dedicated to his Russian guide Natalia. There are words in the song: «We walk with you through Moscow, go to the Red Square, and you say learned words about Lenin, about the revolution, and I think: «How nice it would be to be with you in the «Pushkin Cafe», where there is snow behind the window; we would drink hot chocolate and talk about something else...». The song became incredibly popular in France. And it is not surprising that when the French arrived in Moscow, they looked for «Cafe Pushkin», but did not find it, because it was only a poetic fantasy of Beko. It was this song that inspired Andrei Dellos to create a restaurant that revived the Russian noble cuisine of past centuries. So on June 4, 1999 on the Tverskaya boulevard in a mansion built in baroque style, opened «Cafe Pushkin». At its opening Gilbert Beko performed his famous song «Natalie». Tverskaya boulevard and its surroundings played a large, almost mystical role in the life of A.S. Pushkin. Being opened in 1796, it became a place for walks of the highest Moscow society and famous people. Pushkin on the boulevard met more than once. In the house of Colonyevov, in place of MHAT them. Gorky, two times a year the children’s balls were held by the famous dance master Yokel, who taught children of Moscow and Petersburg nobility to dance. And at one of these balls Pushkin met his future wife, 16-year-old Natasha Goncharova. Finally, at the beginning of the boulevard, at the Nikitsky Gate, there is a church where they were married. And the monument to Pushkin was also previously on the Tverskoy Boulevard.
