Moscow Pushkin Drama Theatre

Moscow Pushkin Drama Theatre, located in the very heart of Moscow — on Tverskoy Boulevard, was opened in 1950. In this very building on the 25th of December 1914 Alexander Tairov opened his Chamber Theater (Kamerniy Teatr) with the premiere of «Shakuntala». The theatre was an example of spectacular, emotional and expressive theatre. It was closed down in 1949 for «formalism and aestheticism». In 1950, after the reorganization, the theater received a new name: the Moscow Drama Theater named after A.S. Pushkin. Now it is a classic repertory theater of modern times, recognized as one of the most interesting places in Moscow. The repertoire of the theater includes classic and modern dramaturgy, spectacular productions and chamber experiments. Outstanding masters and young experimental directors work on the stage. Since 2010, the theater has been headed by the Honored Artist of Russia Evgeny Pisarev.
