Russian Geographical Society

The Russian Geographical Society, one of the oldest geographical societies in the world, has been uniting specialists in the field of geography and related sciences, as well as enthusiastic travelers, environmentalists, public figures for almost 180 years, everyone who seeks to learn new things about Russia, who is ready to help preserve its natural resources. The RGS expeditions are a clear practical embodiment of the continuity of large–scale scientific research. More than 200 federal and regional expeditions are conducted annually under the auspices of the Russian Geographical Society. Representatives of academic and educational institutions, youth, military personnel, volunteers, journalists, and leaders of public associations jointly explore and share knowledge and experience in the RGS expeditions. The RGS has traditionally been a leader in the development of scientific volunteerism, environmental education and civic science, and in 2023 the RGS launched a new travel format, setting the tone for popular science tourism.
