Sports Museum

«State Museum of Sport» is the successor to the Central Museum of Physical Culture, which was located in the stadium named after Lenin in Luzhniki and was founded in 1957 for the opening of the 6th World Youth and Students Festival. All the prizes won by Soviet athletes at international competitions, European Championships, World Cup and Olympic Games were then transferred to the museum for storage. The museum received a second life in 2001, when the sports leadership of the country began to revive the museum, which was the custodian of Patriotic Sport. In 2009, the Museum of Sport received the first exhibition halls, they were located on two floors of the annex of the Russovsky estate. In 2017, the State Museum of Sport moved to the central building of the Russovsky estate, where it opened 11 new halls. Today, the State Museum of Sport is more than 100,000 unique exhibits that symbolize the tradition and glory of domestic sport and form the basis of the sports-historical heritage of our country. 300 of these items have no equivalent in the world. According to the «density» of objects per m2, the State Museum of Sport occupies the first place among the world sports museums.
