Timiryazev Biological Museum

Our museum is located in the former estate of the collector and philanthropist Pyotr Ivanovich Shchukin, founder of the Museum of Russian Antiquities. You will always be captivated by the architecture of the estate, built in the pseudo-Russian style at the turn of the 20th century. In 1934, at the request of Maxim Gorky, two of the estate's three buildings became home to the K. A. Timiryazev State Biological Museum. Stepping over the threshold of the estate, you find yourself in another world, where there is no hustle and bustle, where it is warm in winter and cool in summer, where you can comfortably immerse yourself in studying the inhabitants of our planet. The K. A. Timiryazev State Biological Museum was founded in 1922 by Boris Mikhailovich Zavadovsky, an academician and leading expert in physiology, endocrinology, and biology. He conceived not just of a unique, topic-based museum but also of an interactive one! This was an incredibly innovative idea for the early 20th century. The exhibition presents all branches of biology. There's no other museum like it anywhere else—not in Moscow, not in Russia!
